Education News: Plagiarism Plagues Schools, Colleges and Universities

Copying and pasting from the internet has become a huge problem for colleges and high schools. The number of A-level students caught cheating in their coursework has rocketed following a rise in the use of the Turnitin database, which is used to check pupil's work against online materials.

Barry Calvert, who works for nLearning which provide the database, said that it was believed children as young as 11 need to be taught how to properly reference and credit sources from the internet rather than attempting to pass off the work as their own.

A recent study funded by nLearning has shown that half of university students would submit essays they had bought off the internet, and that 45% of students were certain a peer had cheated during an essay, report, test or exam in the past year.

Universities are now telling high schools all over the country to educate children to be prepared for when they reach university.
